Skeels (Syn.  Eugenia jambolana  Lam;  S .  jambolanu  DC)  an evergreen tree belonging to family myrtaceae, is one of the most important medicinal plants used in the treatment of diabetes in Ayurveda and in the various folk systems of medicine in Southeast Asia. Jamun is also used in the treatment of diabetes in the Unani, Siddha, Srilanka, and Tibetan and in the Homeopathy systems of alternative and complementary medicine .
